Generally it is believed that trading for a short period of time, when a trading order lasts no more than one day, a trader completes a large number of trades, among which there are both profitable and unprofitable trades. At the same time, during the long term trading, you can invest your deposit longer for higher profits, making your funds work over a longer period of time, which in turn minimizes the number of transactions and minimize your losses. Although it is not always possible to expect that the chosen direction of the trend will be profitable. At that moment another important factor comes to play as the vision of the market and the ability to provide significant economic situation in the world and analyze financial data for making trading decisions and applying them to the trading for an extended period of time. But if you are sure in terms of profitability of your trading method, you can decide which trading technique is better for you: day trading or the long term investment.

When trading online for long periods of time, usually traders try to invest no more than 2-5% of the initial deposit into one trade, gradually investing the remaining money in the short-term trades. With regard to specifics of the day trading it is completely different, and every investor selects the risks for himself, since not everyone can afford to invest about 50% of the initial deposit with a stop loss at 30 pips. I think this is a high risk. But if you are sue in terms of efficiency of work, imagine you have $ 10,000, 60-70% of them is in the short-term trade that you invest in any currency pair, at the same time minimizing your risks of 10-20 pips. If you have successfully made the operation and your current trade is making you 100% profit, your investments crossed the breakeven point and the “market noise” is not able to damage it. But such things happen very seldom. I think that a normal trader would never do like that, because it is very risky.

Trading Forex in Singapore market, we often make a series of financial transactions, keeping them during one day, a maximum of three days for the complete exposure of the transaction and achieving profitable results. Usually Singapore trader tries all sorts of trading methods on a short interval of time, I would say that at short intervals of time it is very hard to trade according to a system. Generally it is considered that a good method should be focused directly on a certain set of conditions in the Forex Singapore market. That is, there can be hardly a single method, which can be purchased for several thousand dollars and applied to all periods of price movements. Each situation on the market needs a different approach.

Hey,

Are there people in the world who day trade forex for a living? I’ve read so many articles bashing day trading as gambling and impossible to make money, but I also read some forex trader interview who just trade a few hours a day and make a good living. Is it true?
Anyone has experience?

For example, say we have a security with price & avg daily vol of 1m share. That’s m a day infused into the stock divided by 390 (the # of minutes in a trading day) that’s about ,200 a minute that changes hand in that stock. If I see a trading opportunity and want to buy 0,000 worth of stock that minute how will that affect the price? Is there a factor like 2X, 3X, 4X, etc that I can use to know how much more (or less) than the normal 1 minute dollar flow I can successfully trade. Also, I use limit orders so I can’t just put in a market order and accumulate shares over a few minutes until I’m filled. This is a day trading strategy so price is very important to me and often times I need to get filled that minute.

Thanks for the help!

Background Info:
Day-Trading eminis (S&P 500)

Hi, I’m a little confused about all of the fees involved in day-trading. I am thinking about going with Mirus Futures (mirusfutures.com) as my brokerage company. So far, I have seen 2 fees that I must pay Mirus Futures when trading. Those fees are Commissions & their Day-Trading Margins (price per contract). I understand that the commission is the small amount I pay every time I trade a contract (.10 per trade). What I don’t understand is what exactly the day-trading margins are. Their lowest day-trading margin is 0 per contract. Does this simply mean that I am allowed to trade 1 contract at a time for 0? And then if I want to be able to trade 2 contracts at a time it will cost me 00? And so on and so on… But then it says as a kind-of side-note, that some traders recommend ,000 to ,000 per contract. What do the higher prices change?

After talking to a friend, he says that he pays 0 per contract and that 1 point equals . Now, going back to the side-note. If I pay ,000 per contract does that change the point value to 0?

Am I correct at all about the information I just gave?

PS: If you need to know any additional information from me, then please reply to the question and I will provide the additional information in an Edit on the question.
What is a "pip"?

Hi, I have done day trading on stock X 100 shares three roundtrip a day on July 1, 2009. two gain and one loss. so the loss is wash sale.
If I do another roundtrip on X 100 shares trading on Dec 31, 2009, will that close my wash sale tax defer?
if the Dec 31 round trip is still a loss and wash sale adjustment from July 1 make it a even bigger loss, will this be tax deductible
